Why SEO is important in Digital Marketing

When it comes to marketing your business, there are a lot of different areas and avenues to consider. Just one of those is called search engine optimisation, or SEO for short. SEO is a way to make your content more visible to search engines, and drive more traffic to your website, therefore making it perform better. In short, it plays a huge role in marketing, and your success online. If done properly, good SEO can elevate your brand and ultimately mean you get a lot of new customers at the end of it. All of this sounds great and is something a lot of businesses spend a lot of time and money getting right. Here we aim to answer, why SEO is important in Digital Marketing.

What Is SEO?

SEO is the practice of increasing the quality and quantity of traffic to your website using search engines. The end goal is to make sure your website is highly visible online, and that people who are searching for your services are directed towards it.

Today, as we move into, grow and expand our digital jungle footprint, what we do online is vital. Since the vast majority of online experiences start on a search engine (over 48%), you want to ensure your website turns up at the top.

The problem is, search engines in general (and Google in particular) are always updating and changing their algorithms, and so businesses often struggle to keep up with the changes. But we believe it can be much easier to create an effective SEO strategy if you understand the goal behind search engines – to provide the best possible experience for the end user.

Where Does SEO Fit Into Digital Marketing?

SEO is one of those areas of digital marketing that extends into almost all of your other efforts. If you’re doing anything online, then SEO should be considered. Blogging? You need to use the right keywords in the right density to make Google happy. Posting on social media? You need to make your posts shareable to drive traffic to your website. Doing a telesales campaign? You need analytics on your website to see where traffic is coming from, and your landing pages should be optimised to drive conversions.

In other words, SEO is more than just a single element of digital marketing. It has a significant role in business marketing, and needs to be treated as an essential element in all planning stages of digital campaigns. Especially if you consider that 51% of all web traffic comes from organic search results – which is influenced almost entirely by your SEO efforts.

If you embrace SEO at an early stage, you’re much more likely to see positive results from your marketing efforts, as well as a significant boost to your general brand awareness.

Couldn’t I Just Do SEO Myself?

Yes, you absolutely could. It would take a lot of time, research and learning time, but there’s no reason you couldn’t handle your own SEO strategy. However, 9 times out of 10 we will recommend using an expert agency instead. There are lots of reasons why hiring an expert is the better option for SEO, but the top 4 are:

The algorithms always change

Google is infamous for changing its algorithms on a regular basis. From making big updates every year to rolling out dozens of small tweaks every day. Things are always changing, which means to get the best results from your SEO you need to keep up. Or hire an expert whose job it is to keep up with those changes and adjust your strategy accordingly.

Reading really isn’t enough

Yes, you could take to Google and read everything you can on SEO. But firstly, where are you getting all of that time from (it’s a full-time job doing all of that reading), and secondly, reading really isn’t enough. Part of what makes SEO consultants good at their jobs is the experience they’ve gained working with search engines, with different platforms and both on and off-page SEO. They’ve experimented and found what works and what doesn’t. Again, you could do that, but then you might as well retrain as an SEO consultant yourself.

Experts understand analytics

There are a lot of analytics involved in SEO. A lot of numbers, graphs and charts that need deciphering, picking apart and presenting in an understandable format, and that’s kind of an art form. Hiring an SEO consultant means they will wade through all of that for you and give you only the important data to make informed decisions.

You’ll save money and get better results

Doing your own SEO will cost you an enormous amount of time, and you likely won’t get the results you’re looking for taking the DIY approach. But if you hire an SEO consultant you can get the results you want without having to spend all of your time doing it and losing revenue in the process. And because an SEO consultant knows what they’re doing, they will get you better results in much less time, so it’s much more cost-effective.

If you want to give it a go yourself then we highly recommend SE Ranking.
